Clothing supplier
We are often asked to recommend suppliers of ski clothing, and
our usual advice is to find a specialist shop in your own local area and try
them for a few minor purchases to see if they give good service. However, if
you just don't have a good nearby shop, then please feel free to try the one
that we use: Apex Sports of Farnham Common in Buckinghamshire. It is
mainly a running shop, so you won't find rucksacks or mountain jackets. But
there is a good selection of light-weight clothing and base-layers. They also have Nordic walking shoes,
poles and accessories. Ring Apex on 01753 647339 to speak to Mike or Gareth. Or visit their
online shop at www.apex-sports.co.uk
Telemark ski instruction

provides instruction at several venues in the English Midlands.

Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre
Between Aberdeen
and Inverness, Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre is the UK’s premier
centre for teaching nordic skiing. Their qualified instructors offer day
courses in classic skiing for beginners and improvers, weekend classic
courses and day courses for those wanting to learn to skate. Courses are
held on snow, matting and (with rollerskis) on tarmac. They also offer courses in nordic walking. For more details go to
www.huntly.net/hnoc.
Cross-country ski clubs
There are clubs in many parts of the UK. Most try
to cater for all levels of ability, and their programme often includes
country walks and social evenings as well as skiing (and roller-skiing
events). For a list of the main clubs visit our eCommunity at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xcuk
and see the posting of 23 April 2006.
