Nordic
Skills at Hovringen
On our popular Nordic Skills courses the focus is on
technique improvement. But we know that people learn better when they
are having fun, so we structure each day into enjoyable chunks. Short
sessions of ski school are interspersed with half-day tours in which
coaching is provided whilst on the move.
The teaching syllabus follows Snow Sport England’s
Nordic Proficiency scheme, which is a five-star system. At Hovringen we
provide training for One and Two Star.
Our instructors will also offer assessment. You don’t
have to take it. But if you do want to be
assessed you will need to register with SSE - our instructors can do
this for you on the spot, and will ask you for a cheque for £5 to
forward to SSE.
You need at least a week`s good experience before joining these courses
at any level.
At One Star you are taught and assessed on:
-diagonal stride and double poling
-star turns and kick-turns
-side-stepping on flat and hilly ground
-straight running down gentle slopes
-snowplough glide and brake
At Two Star you develop the basic techniques, and also add:
-double pole and kick
-basic skating and skate-turns
-step turns and snowplough turns
-herringboning and traversing
Hire of standard recreational track skis is included. Specialist skis
are not required.
