Kandersteg

Kandersteg

Kandersteg, in the Bernese Oberland, encapsulates the best of Switzerland: high altitude skiing, achingly beautiful scenery and an attractive village that has steadfastly resisted over-development.

Kandersteg is situated at about 1200m in a wide bowl at the head of the Kander valley. Impressively steep mountains tower up on all sides, and for once the phrase "breath-taking scenery" is genuinely deserved.
