Date first posted on eCommunity - 17 September 2006

Note - the events listed below have all now taken place. We have reproduced the posting here simply to give you an idea of the kinds of things that are happening.

INTRODUCTION
Nordic walking is becoming established in the UK, and more and more events are being organised at national and regional level. At present most of them include an introductory class for newcomers to the sport, but "challenges" for experienced Nordic walkers are also starting to make an appearance.

In this posting we list the main events planned for the next few months. Smaller events are taking place all the time, and introductory classes are always on offer from the growing network of instructors - details of the latter can be found at http://www.nordicwalking.co.uk

Berkshire/South Bucks
Sunday 26 November 2006. London Region Nordic Ski Club will hold a special session called "Ski Fit, Ski Ready with Nordic Walking" at Dorney Common, between Eton and Maidenhead. As well as the Common, the session uses the adjacent Thames path and the Jubilee River Park to ensure that participants have a good country walk as well as a useful training session. It will start at 10.00 and continue until about 14.30 with a break for lunch. Intended for new or experienced skiers with average fitness, the session begins by introducing Nordic walking and – in the course of a 5km walk – shows how it can be used in easy or hard workouts. Then follows some classic "dryland training" on a short hill: walking, moose-hoofs and hill-bounding. The session leader is Stuart Montgomery, who has qualifications as a Nordic walking instructor and a fitness instructor.
The cost to LRNSC members is £15 including hire of Nordic walking poles. Non members pay £25. Advance booking is essential. For more details and a booking form ring Stuart Montgomery on 01753 538241 or email enquiries@xcuk.com.
